Although the holidays are an amazing time of the year that is filled with joy and happiness and spending time with your loved ones, they can also be a really stressful time of year on both your emotional being and definitely your bank account, big time!
Between purchasing a bunch of food for Thanksgiving, to buying presents for Christmas, and providing decorations and drinks for New Year’s, your bank account is probably screaming “HELLLPPP! STOP SPENDING ME!!!”
So what are we supposed to do after the holidays to catch ourselves back up to a reasonable living?
I’ve come up with a few tips that will help you to stabilize yourself and your bank account after it was hit so hard during the lovely holiday season.
1. Cut Back: If you are someone that tends to spend a lot of extra money on things that aren’t necessary in your everyday life, try to cut back on it. For example, if you’re someone that loves to shop and buy a lot of clothes or shoes, try to refrain from that and put yourself on a “no buy” for a while. It won’t kill you to miss out on extra amenities for a bit and your bank account will feel extremely grateful.
2. Take Advantage of Gift Cards: A really common gift for Christmas and Holidays is gift cards, which can be a bit of a bummer but works great to your advantage for after Christmas. You can use these to purchase your food and things like this after Christmas has ended, save your cash and use your cards!
3. Stay In: If you’re a family that tends to eat out and get delivery quite often, try staying in and cooking for yourselves at home! This is really the much cheaper option and it is actually much healthier for your body as well. This really is a win win situation! Plus, cooking is a really fun activity that you can do with the family and meals are always so rewarding when you’ve cooked them yourself.
4. Clear Out: Being that you just got a ton of new belongings for Christmas such as clothing and things, go through all of your old stuff and get rid of anything that you don’t wear. You can take your old clothes to a resale shop and they’ll pay you for your old clothing which will help in rebuilding your bank account!
I know that the holidays can really be a difficult time for your bank account, but if you just live life a bit simpler for a month or so after wards, you will be able to build your account back up and it will be much less stressful for yourself!
