Movie Review: Disney’s WRECK-IT RALPH

Movie Review: Disney’s WRECK-IT RALPH

Looking for a fun family movie to see with your family this weekend?  Disney’s WRECK-IT RALPH in 3D, is the movie to see of the season.  Just a couple of weeks ago, I got the awesome privilege of attending a pre-screening of the film at Emagine Theatre in Novi.  Sweet Pea (9), came along for the fun movie adventure.

I will be honest, upon arrival and not knowing much about the film,  I was a little concerned it would be a flop amongst the younger female crowd, well my girls anyway.  Let’s just say, WRECK-IT RALPH (John C. Reilly) proved me wrong.  Without giving too much of the movie away, the main character Ralph, is from a ”classic” video game set inside an arcade.  He is pretty much tired of being a bad guy and just wants to earn a medal for being a hero.  Upon meeting a youngster, (Vanellope von Schweet, voice of Sarah Silverman) in another video game in the arcade, Ralph learns some valuable lessons along the way.  Vanellope, is from the game ”Sugar Rush.”  The colorful candy world is definitely fun and intriguing.

Disney’s WRECK-IT RALPH 3D, is full of action and adventure.  Never a dull moment.  There were some light to medium name calling between characters throughout the movie.  I was sure to address this with Sweet Pea, so some parental discretion may be in the cards for that.  Also, in the beginning there is a “bad guy” support group meeting for all the classic video game villians.  Some of it is humorous, but there is a part where one of the villian’s rips out a zombie’s heart.  This of course put me on edge briefly not knowing what the rest of the movie would bring.  The heart was gray and purple so it wasn’t gorey, but I just want to be honest that this is in there and very brief.

Throughout this Disney movie, Ralph and Vanellope basically try to overcome obstacles to get what they think they need.  Kids can get a little life lesson from this, which is a plus.

WRECK-IT RALPH 3D is rated PG.  This is definitely the proper rating for this Disney film.  Would I let my 6 and 3 year old see it?  Probably not.  I would say this is geared more towards the 9+ crowd, but of course this is my personal opinion.   Sweet Pea loved it and wants to see it again in 3D.  I wouldn’t mind seeing it again myself.  Overall, it’s fun for the kids and a little bit of classic video game nostalgia for the parents.  Gotta love that!

Disney’s WRECK-IT RALPH is in theatres today!

In exchange for this post, I received a free pre-screening of WRECK-IT RALPH, however, all opinions expressed here are honest and my own.
