Homeschool Lesson Plan Idea: Dogs Decoded

Let your friends know:

Homeschool Resource Dogs Decoded

How much does your child know about dogs? They make great pets, of course, and can truly be man’s best friend, but did you know some dogs are incredibly smart, too? Documentaries can be a great way to learn about some amazing topics. Dogs Decoded [HD], available for free via Amazon Prime, brings fascinating facts about dogs to light. You and your child won’t want to miss this one.

Dogs Decoded is jam-packed with interesting facts about our furry friends, but here are a few of the highlights:

  • Think a dog can’t distinguish real words (fetch toys based on their names) or find objects based on their pictures? Dogs Decoded proves that wrong.
  • Wondering about the evolution of dogs from wolves and whether doggie personalities are a result of evolution or nurturing? Find out in Dogs Decoded!
  • What do dogs understand about our emotions? Yup, that’s in there, too.
  • What happens when you breed tame wolves with other tame wolves? There are some surprises here!
  • What if you raised a wolf cub like a puppy? Would the end result be closer to the dogs we keep as pets or the wolves that live in the wild?
  • Wondering how dogs were domesticated? What made them into such great pets? Dogs Decoded has the answers.

Go ahead and watch Dogs Decoded for the surprising answers to these and many other questions. Then, use this free teacher’s guide to get the most out of this amazing video lesson. The guide is designed for use with children at or above the 5th grade level. For younger children, the Top 10 Favorite Dog Breeds and More Identification Worksheet may fit the bill. Want more? Check out Enchanted Learning for more doggie printables for the younger set.

M is for Monster Preschool Activity Kit {Review}

Let your friends know:

I received a M is for Monster preschool activity kit to try with my preschooler in exchange for this review.  All opinions expressed here are honest and my own.

box

As parents, we know that preschoolers are busy bees and very hands-on.  They like to engage with everything they come in contact with.  As a former preschool teacher, I saw this first-hand every day, and now experiencing it with my third little girl.

She is what I call “a textbook preschooler.”  Everything you need to know about a preschooler can be observed through her….haha!

On my quest to engage her in more activities outside of private preschool, I was introduced to a cool program called: M is for Monster.  You get easy and fun learning activities shipped to your door every month for your preschooler or toddler.

You can purchase them through these two options:

  1. Toddler-Appropriate for ages 2-3.  This activity kit focuses on: uppercase letters, numbers 1-10, and shapes.
  2. Preschool-Appropriate for ages 4-5.  Focuses on: lowercase letters, numbers 1-20, and basic shapes.

Other skills are available, but these are the basics offered through M is for Monster.

I had a lot of fun utilizing our April kit with my preschooler.  Here is what she learned:

  • Week 1: Rainbows- Letter R Rainbow craft with tissue paper. (fine motor skills) and a rainbow craft with a paper plate, crayons/markers, clothespins, and ribbons.
  • Week 2: Kites-Letter matching onto pictures of kites, Kite Math, and storybook on kites by the Berenstein Bears.
  • Week 3: Bunnies and Carrots-Bunny to Carrot Prewriting, Carrot Counting, and a Bunny Bag to make a bunny puppet.
  • Week 4: Flowers-Make a Tickle Me Plant and a Felt Flower Pot.

Fine motor skills development is very important for preschoolers. So these activities were great to reinforce the process while stimulating their senses and improving their attention spans.

In the M is for Monster April activity kit we also received a “Continue the Learning” flyer which included other book ideas and songs/rhymes.

To preview their past activity kits (boxes) click here.

How much is M is for Monster per month?  Both toddler and preschool options are currently $39.95 for a single box and $34.95 per month.  This is really a great price for everything you receive in an activity kit.

I almost wish my preschooler wasn’t heading into Kindergarten next school year as I would love to order boxes for the year.  Since they also include age 5, I think we can get away with it. Ha!  It’s such a clever idea and I wish I would have had something like this when all of my girls were in preschool.

To learn more and to stay up to date with M is for Monster, feel free to follow them on:
