Sand Art Brownies

These Sand Art Brownies make the perfect gift for co-op teachers and tutors.  Actually, they are so good, you may just want to make a batch for yourself!  My daughter, home from college, tasted my test batch and said they were the best brownies she’s ever tried.

Kids will have fun measuring & pouring the ingredients into the jar and moms will appreciate that you probably have most of the ingredients right in your own kitchen.

Sand Art Brownie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup baking cocoa
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup vanilla or white chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (if you are concerned about nut allergies, substitute nuts with additional vanilla or chocolate chips)

ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS:
3 eggs
2/3 cup canola oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

In a small bowl, combine flour and salt. In a 1-qt. glass container, layer the flour mixture, brown sugar, sugar, cocoa, chips and pecans. Cover and store in a cool dry place for up to 6 months.
To prepare brownies: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, oil and vanilla. Add brownie mix; stir until blended.
Spread into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes.
